Clogging in the Olympics!
2002 Salt Lake City Games
Did you know that the Opening Ceremonies featured cloggers? 64 of Utah's cloggers danced during the "Rendezvous" section of the "America West Suite"! With a a backdrop of a western gathering and hoedown, the suite featured over 2,000 dancers kicking up their heels, and doing everything from square dancing to clogdancing.
How did it happen? The Olympic Committee invited every dancer in Utah to
tryout for the Opening Ceremonies. Over 23,000 people tried out, and the
producers chose dancers from 4 studios in Utah. Rocky Mountain
Express, Vawd Squad, Dance Attack, and BYU Folkdancers. From
these studios, 6 directors were chosen to help choreograph the number.
LaChere Vawdrey, Lindsey Greenwood, Greg
& Maria Tucker, Lisa Timothy,
and Jason Wells would help Jay Ledford, who choreographed the
clogging in the Atlanta Games.
